The Evil Peck of Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR

In one of his moments of exaggerated sense of importance, the former Nigeria’s military president, Gen. Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida, IBB, called himself the evil genius. If ever he was, it did not last long.

The real evil genius of Nigeria is former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Just look at what he accomplished this week.

He launched his book, two days ahead of schedule, despite a court order that asked him not to. In doing so, he knocked his former Vice President, Abubakar Atiku, out of contention in the opposition All Progressive Congress(APC) presidential primary. With that single stroke, he also diminished Nigeria’s President Goodluck Jonathan- diminished so much that his own presidential primary and acceptance speech looked like a funeral.

And most of all, Obasanjo gave his erstwhile Minister of Education/Solid Minerals, Oby Ezekwesili a peck on the cheek at his book launch. With that single move, Obasanjo set the internet on fire. Newspapers across the country(Punch, mainly) virtually forgot every big news of the week.

Some went to the extent of saying that with that simple peck, Obasanjo ruined any chance of Oby Ezekwesili becoming Muhamadu Buhari’s vice presidential candidate. (something I doubt is being considered, or even, if it’s something Oby Ezekwesili would want).

In any case, Oby Ezekwesili is now defending her honor over newspapers and social media insinuations that followed Obasanjo’s evil peck. The situation has degenerated to Ezekwesili taking on Punch newspaper, a newspaper that should otherwise be in her ideological camp. She wants to use this as a teaching moment... teaching the traditional and social media that have sold their souls to Alexa. Good luck with that, Oby.

Meanwhile, I’m sure that Obasanjo is somewhere laughing his head off.

Yeah, Obasanjo, self-acclaimed father of modern Nigeria(an unjust and mediocre country run by thieves), unleashed an evil peck that changed the world.

Congratulations, OBJ. You’re the player of the week.
